Sammy Greenfellow has had to walk to the city from his village to find work. He is employed by Weasel Dick to sell clouds as real estate for charity and Sammy who believes he is doing good persuades a greedy widow to part with all her money. When the widow discovers she has been conned she goes mad and signs over her daughter Rose to Dick as legal guardian who treats her as a slave. Realising they have all been tricked Sammy disguises himself a city slicker and rescues Rose and tricks Dick out of all his ill gotten gains. Free Rose offers herself to Sammy who loves her and they buy a farm in the country where they can look after the mother.
